FROM FIRE AND SUN

BUCCIA
NON TRATTATA!

Carefully selecting the Blood Oranges is decisive for the clean extraction of this fruit’s aroma. We only source fully ripe fruits in the late harvest months of March and April directly from a small Sicilian orange grower, who has completely dispensed with the use of pesticides, herbicides, preservatives and wax. Only the Sicilian sun and the nutrient-rich volcanic soil make this fruit what it is. In the distillation of the spirit and gin, only the zests are used as they carry the essential oil which is so important for the aroma of our distillates.

THE GIN INGREDIENTS

BOTANICALS

JUNIPER

Juniper from Tuscany with fine sweetness and subtle bitter notes.

When selecting juniper, we rely on our supplier’s many years of experience. The secrets of proper drying for each use have been passed down through generations. Good storage and the careful sorting of the berries is extremely important.

CORIANDER SEED

A must in every gin. No coriander, no roots.

The coriander seed is a spice used in North African and South Asian cuisine with a fruity, spicy, slightly nutty aroma and forms a wonderful harmony with oranges or blood oranges. Basically a must in every gin. In terms of taste, a world away from coriander leaves.

MACE

Reminiscent of pine needles with subtle mint notes.

Better known as nutmeg, this is actually the pod around the nutmeg that grows within a fruit. Its aroma is reminiscent of pine needles and pine nuts, with a subtle mint note which is only noticeable in very fresh batches. It serves as a spicy contrast in our blood orange-dominated gin recipe.

LEMON GRASS

Fresh “green” citrus notes. The citrus bed of the recipe.

The content of essential oils in this plant varies a lot from growing region to region. For no other ingredient, have we had to test so many different suppliers. In the meantime, we get it fresh from the neighbourhood from an organic greenhouse culture of a retired gardener.

JUNGLE PEPPER

Madagascar jungle pepper. Light earthy notes with an aromatic fresh citrus note.

A pepper of the slightly more luxurious variety, as it only grows wild on Madagascar. The incredibly lemony aromas that make up this pepper are a key component of our gin. They serve the purpose that all flavours support the freshness from the blood orange and at the same time add a spicy complexity.

ANGELICA ROOT

Serves to harmonise the aromas and gives herbaceous tones.

Angelica root is available in every pharmacy, mostly in a poor quality that smells vegetable broth. Doch der Lieferant unseres Wacholders lässt deutschen Angelikawurz exklusiv kultivieren. But our Juniper supplier grows an exclusive Angelica root from a specialised culture. Bingo! Two additional ingredients are Violet Root and Lavender. Both round of the gin with soft, flowery notes.

GUARANTEED FRESH

QUALITY

We source all our ingredients from carefully selected suppliers, but also from long-standing partners of the Feinkost Galeria in Ludwigsburg, which Alessandro, as our Head of Fresh & Fruity, opened in 2003. The quality of the raw materials must come first, and only then do our own formulas come into play. In this way, we adapt the recipe to the weather-dependent deviations of the essential oil content in the raw materials. Botanical algorithms are therefore not just for show, but rather they are our guideline for maintaining quality.
